Spreading Awareness among People on Road Safety
On 05.08.2012,
Swamimalai
Police Inspector personnel here in association with the Lions Club of
Swamimalai launched a campaign on Sunday to affix bull’s eye stickers on
the headlights of vehicles and spread awareness among people on road
safety.
A
team of personnel and volunteers from the club affixed the stickers and
distributed handbills carrying information on road safety.
Action
The personnel said the government had made it mandatory for vehicle users to have bull’s eye stickers on the headlamps.
Stern action would be initiated against those found driving vehicles without the stickers.
The
dazzling headlights were one of the main reasons for many head-on
collisions especially on the highways. The effect of the headlights
would be very minimal if the vehicles had a bull’s eye, the personnel
said.
The
vehicle users were also advised to use high and low beam, especially
when a vehicle approached from the opposite direction. A majority of the
vehicle users were not following this rule, police officials pointed
out.
Appeal
The
personnel and volunteers also appealed to the vehicle users to avoid
talking on mobile phones while driving. Violations such as haphazard
parking of vehicles, signal jumping and drunken driving would be dealt
with seriously, they said.
The
police said that they would conduct more programmes as part of the
campaign to increase the level of awareness among people on traffic
rules.
